Visa and Immigration information for new students

0. On-line Reservation for visiting Immigration Office

You have to make an online reservation at www.hikorea.go.kr before you visit Immigration Office for any inquiry.

If you live on Gwanak Campus housing (Gwanaksa, BK International House) or near campus, please visit Seoul Immigration Office.

Please take enough time to book the date and time you would like to visit the immigration office.  

1. Alien Registration Card

Foreign students must apply for Alien Registration Card within 90 days since they arrive in Korea.

When you visit immigration office, please bring

- Application Form (download from ‘Form Download’)

- Passport

- 1 passport size photo (3x4cm)

- Certificate of Enrollment (download from ‘MySNU portal’)

- Fee KRW 30,000

- Receipt of Tuition Payment

- Medical Certificate *

* Only for those from 16 countries with a high incidence of TB): Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, the Russian Federation, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, China, Sri Lanka

 

2. Part-time Work Permission

You must get permission from Seoul Immigration Office before you start working part-time/paid internship in Korea. In order to get permission, you need to fill up the confirmation form attached (either Korean or English version) with information of yourself, the company/organisation (stamped or signed by owner) and get it signed by a certified officer of SNU (Ms. Ina Yoon)*.

* None of staffs from administration office of your college OR company/organisation you are going to work for has a right to sign the form.

 

When you visit OIA with the Confirmation Form(attachment 1), please also bring

- Alien Registration Card

- A copy of Certificate for Business Registration of the company/organisation

- A signed contract (the starting date must be later than the submission date of the form)

** It is strongly recommended to have enough time (more than 1 week) to get permission before the starting day of your work.

If you work without permission, you will get a fine and punished according to the immigration law in Korea.

3. Extension of your student visa (D-2)

You can apply for extension of your stay two months before your current visa expired. The required documents are as below.

- Application form (attachment 2), passport, Alien Registration Card, fee

- Documents proving attendance (a certificate of attendance, a certificate of extension of exchange student, a certificate of research student, etc.)

- Documents proving that you are maintaining your study properly (a transcript, a confirmation of attendance, etc.)

- documented proof of your financial ability

-T.B.Test Report from approved Public Health Centers (only for those from 16 countries with

a high incidence of TB)
